Close to 600 huts set up by shelterless poor families over some 20 bighas or 5 acres of land in Fatuha Assembly segment of Patna were reduced to ashes on March 10. At least one person has died in the fire and several children received burn injuries. For the 600 households every essential item of everyday life and livelihood are totally destroyed.

CPIML organised protests on March 11 and 12 against the Delhi Police's assault on Namaz offering Muslims in the national capital. The incident occurred on March 10 in Delhi's Inderlok, as due to space constraint some people were offering Namaz on the roadside with required permission. The police personnel deployed in the area, including the in-charge Manoj Tomar kicked and assaulted the people.

Rejecting the discriminatory and unconstitutional Citizenship Amendment Act and its notification on the eve of Lok Sabha Elections, the central committee of CPIML called for a countrywide protest on March 14. Terming the CAA notification a major political conspiracy to divide the country on religious lines, CPIML has said CAA clearly seeks to polarise citizens on the basis of their religious affiliation, deceptively promising citizenship to non-Muslim 'refugees' while threatening Muslims with loss of citizenship and possible deportation.

The eighth UP state conference of RYA held on 10 March 2024 at Nehru Yuva Kendra in Lucknow elected Thakur Prasad as President and Sunil Maurya as Secretary. The conference underlined the need for a united struggle of youth in the state against Yogi government’s Bulldozer-raj and high unemployment, attacks on reservations, crimes against women and question paper leaks in competitive examinations.

Condemning the attempts to manipulate and steal JNU students' union elections, by the RSS backed ABVP, the AISA JNU unit in a statement on March 13 said that JNU community will give a befitting reply to anti-student organisation.

JNUSU elections are going to take place after a gap of more than four years, with the last union elected in 2019. This was a result of a long struggle by AISA and students’ organisations, forcing the JNU administration to issue notifications for the elections.

On March 11, Comrade Shashi Yadav, Politburo member of CPI(ML) and General Secretary of All India Scheme Workers' Federation filed her nomination for the Bihar MLC Elections. She is among the three women in the Mahagathbandhan panel of five candidates to fill eleven vacancies.

An unemployed youth Durgesh Yadav committed suicide in his rented room at Madiyaon in Lucknow. He hailed from Siddharthnagar district and was in search of a job for a long time. Uttar Pradesh unit of CPIML holds Yogi government responsible for such suicides for its anti-youth policies which have increased joblessness and frustration among the youth. The state government keeps on making false propaganda about job creations but in reality there are no jobs for most of the young generation.

On March 3, Patna’s Gandhi Maidan, a sprawling ground at the centre of the city, spread across 60 acres, bore witness to a historic moment. Braving the cold and unexpected rain, tens of thousands of youth, women, and toiling masses from across the state painted the entire ground in the sea of red and green flags. The slogans of ‘Bihar will fight, dictatorship fall’ and ‘Mahagathbandhan Zindabad’ reverberated across the city centre.

Land Rights 

On 28 February, CPIML held a demonstration in front of the Bissam Cuttack tehsil in Rayagada district with a thirteen point charter of demands. The protest called for immediate action in long-pending demand of tribal, dalits and landless communities for land pattas [land deed]. The protesters asked the BJD government to redistribute the ceiling surplus lands to the landless, and provide land rights as per the provisions of the Forest Rights Act to the forest dwelling communities.
