AIPWA Protests Escalating Violence against Women in Uttar Pradesh


AIPWA organized protests across the State of Uttar Pradesh on 21 July 2020 against the escalating violence against women in the State and the incident where two women from Amethi (mother and daughter) seeking justice attempted self-immolation in front of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s office ‘Lok Bhavan’ and sustained 80% and 20% burns respectively.

Protest for ASHA Workers’ Rights in Uttarakhand

Utarakhand ASHA Health Workers Union, affiliated to AICCTU organized a Protest Day on 3 July 2020 in response to the central trade unions’ nationwide call, and raised the issues of ASHA health workers. The protests were held at Haldwani, Nainital, Garampani, Betalghat, Champawat, Pithoragarh, Berinag, Gangolihat, Thal, Didihat, Kanalichhina, Munakot, Bajpur, Kashipur, badrkot, Almora, Syaldeh, Bhikiyasain, Ranikhet, Tadikhet, Dwarahat, Bageshwar, Kapkot and other places.

Protest Against Sexual Abuse in Kanpur Shelter Home

AIPWA observed 25 June 2020 as Nationwide Outrage Day against the horrific incidents that have come to light in the Kanpur Child Protection Home matter. Reports have come in about sexual abuse of minor girls at the Home and also about the implication of BJP leaders in these crimes. The Kanpur local administration has confirmed the reports that 57 girls have tested positive for Corona, out of which 5 minor girls are pregnant.

ASHA Workers Protest in Bihar

IN response to the call by the All India Scheme Workers Federation under AICCTU’s Nyay Abhiyan (Campaign for Justice) scheme workers including ASHA, Anganwadi and Rasoiya (Mid-day meal) workers have been carrying on a week-long countrywide campaign for justice from 10 June. Under this campaign, demands are being raised across Bihar at offices and work places through slogans, posters and placards.

Women in Self Help Groups Hold Countrywide Protests

Responding to the call by AIPWA affiliated Swayam Sahayata Samooh Sangharsh Samiti (Self Help Groups Struggles Committee) for a countrywide dharna on 29 may, women associated with thousands of Self Help Groups across the country held dharnas in villages and mohallas with the demand for loan waivers because of the crisis induced by the pandemic and Lockdown, along with their other long pending demands.
