CPIML has strongly condemned the brutal murder of Jitan Sahani, the 70-year-old father of Vikasheel Insan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani in Darbhanga district in Bihar on July 16th. The party noted that the murder points towards the crumbling law and order situation in Bihar with criminal have embolden under Nitish-BJP regime.

On July 3, INDIA bloc student organisations held a joint protest demonstration at Jantar Mantar. Organisations including AISA, NSUI, AISF, MSF, SFI among others joined the protest along with NEET and NET aspirants raising demand for immediate scrapping of NTA and the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.

Protests were held on July 1 at the call of CPIML across the country demanding postponement of implementation of three new criminal laws and that they must be placed in the new Parliament for proper discussion. Many concerns have been raised by prominent lawyers, civil society activists, political parties and the general public regarding draconian provisions inserted in new laws by the Modi government.

The recent decision by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to prosecute renowned author and activist Arundhati Roy and former Kashmir University professor Dr. Sheikh Shaukat Hussain under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for a case dating back to 2010 has sparked significant controversy and nationwide protests led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist).

The App Workers' Union (AICCTU) staged a protest in front of the Delhi Labour Commissioner's office on 20th June to highlight the increasing exploitation of app workers amid extreme heat conditions. Delivery workers from companies like Swiggy, Zomato, Instamart, Blinkit, and Porter, operating across various parts of Delhi, joined forces to voice their concerns about the relentless exploitation they face, even in the sweltering summer heat.

 CPIML Demands High-Level Judicial Investigation

A serious case of sexual harassment involving women employees of a chit fund company in Muzaffarpur has emerged, prompting for the demand of a high-level judicial investigation. The CPIML has raised concerns about political protection and administrative collusion in this case.

In a pre-budget consultation meeting with the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held in New Delhi on 24 June, the representatives of central trade union organisations and employees’ federations criticised the former for not holding such consultations during previous years. The CTUs also reminded the government of the highest workers’ tripartite forum, the Indian Labour Conference (ILC) which has not been called since the NDA governments came to power ten years ago.
