The November 26 crackdown by police and anti-socials, backed by BJP-RSS on the four-month-long peaceful struggle in Vizhinjam seems to be part of a calculated move to suppress a democratic struggle against the Adani Port Project construction activities in the Vizhinjam coastlines. The construction of a breakwater and dredging activities as part of port project has already resulted in costal erosion leading to hundreds of fishworkers losing their houses.

I.T.I Workers Struggle Completes One Year

On 1st December, 2021, the management of Indian Telephone Industries Ltd. (ITI) terminated 80 workers, largely Dalit and women, on the sole ground that they formed a union and are fighting for their legal rights. Since their termination from employment, the ITI workers have been protesting day and night at ITI Gate. It is one year since they began their continuous struggle seeking reinstatement, and the ITI Management has failed to reinstate the workers back into work.

Uttarakhand Zydus Employees’ March against Illegal Lockdown

On 30 November, hundreds of workers of Zydus  under the banner of Zydus Wellness Employees Union (AICCTU) marched to the Uttrakhand Vidhansabha against the illegal lockout at company's Sitarganj production facility in the state. Zydus Wellness is an Indian consumer goods company and produces household goods like Glucon-D, Sugar Free, Complan and Nycil. The unit was closed by the company in the name 'manufacturing and supply chain network optimisation exercise', leaving hundreds of workers out of job.

Turn the 11th Party Congress of CPIML into a Festival of Mass Movements

A state wide cadre convention was held in Patna on 4 December 2022 at the Bharatiya Nritya Kala Mandir auditorium to prepare for the forthcoming 11th party congress of CPIML to be held in Patna which will be preceded by a massive rally on 15 February 2022 at Gandhi Maidan.  The convention was addressed by the General Secretary of CPIML Dipankar Bhattacharya. Senior leaders along with district secretaries and party activists spoke in the convention.  An eight point resolution was also endorsed at the convention.

Second Anniversary Of The Historic Farmers' Movement

The second anniversary of the historic farmers' movement was observed across the country on 26 November 2022, with powerful rallies and marches in all state capitals and many district headquarters under the joint banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM). Farmers, supported by workers, students, youth, women and ordinary people, held massive protests and rallies in 25 state capitals, more than 300 district headquarters and numerous tehsil headquarters. In Punjab’s Mohali, more than 50,000 people joined the demonstration called by 31 farmers organisations.

CPIML Demands Immediate Withdrawal Of Suspension Order Against MCD Election Candidate Jitender Kumar

Jitender Kumar, a dalit sanitation worker contesting from Lado Sarai for MCD elections from CPI ML has received a show cause notice from his private employer asking him to explain why his job should not be terminated as he is contesting MCD polls. Rakshak the private contractor hired by JNU administration sent Jitender Kumar show cause notice yesterday i.e. 26th November.

Karnataka Sanitation Workers Demand Permanent Employment

A state-level conference of sanitation workers (powrakarmikas) was held on 06.11.2022 at Ambedkar Bhavan in Bangalore by the BBMP Pourakarmika Sangha, Karnataka Pragathipara Pourakarmika Sangha, Karnataka Pragathipara Tajya Sagisuva Vahana Chalakara Matthu Sahayakara Sangha (all affiliated with AICCTU), demanding that all powrakarmikas in the state be made permanent. Thousands of powrakarmikas participated in this convention.
