Vandalization of Ambedkar Statue in Sitapur

The CPIML in Uttar Pradesh has strongly condemned the vandalization and breaking of a life-size statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar by anti-social elements in a primary school park in Hargaon, Sitapur District on the night of 18 August. The Gram Pradhan Vimla Singh has given a written complaint in the Thana and the accused are the same people who had attacked dalits on 14 August. Now people fear that further lethal attacks may be imminent on the dalits as the beheading of the statue goes unpunished.

Misogynistic Judgment of the Kozhikode Sessions Court

On August 12th, the Kozhikode Sessions Court granted bail to a 74-year-old social activist – Civic Chandran – observing that "The photographs produced along with the bail application by the accused would reveal that the defacto complainant herself is wearing a dress which is sexually provocative. So Section 354A will not prima facie stand against the accused.” The aforementioned dictum pronounced by the court is a blatant violation of constitutional morality and the democratic fabric of India.

Justice For Victims of Sterlite Massacre

In May 2018, hundreds of local villagers had organised a march against the proposed expansion of the Sterlite’s Copper Smelter Plant in Tuticorin town of Tamil Nadu. They were protesting against the severe pollution from the plant in the region leading to catastrophic environmental pollution of ground water and the air. During the peaceful demonstration, the police opened fire on the protesters, killing 13 and injuring 102 people.

Brutal Repression of Agitating CTET Candidates in Patna is Shameful

CPIML condemns the brutal lathcharge on 22 August on agitating youth demanding teachers’ appointment in Bihar and warned the state government to not repeat the same language of repression on unemployed youth as was being done in the earlier government. The party has demanded from the state government to start negotiations with the agitating students/candidate teachers and take stern action against officials responsible for police repression on innocent agitators without any delay.

25 Adivasi Homes Burnt Down on the Eve of 75th Independence Day

Odisha. More than 100 families are earning their livelihood by cultivating maize in about 30 acres of land in the villages of Kopasbhata, Sariabhata and Lakhtipakhana in Burja Panchayat, Umarkot Block, Navrangpur District, Odisha.

Suddenly between 10 am and 12 noon on the morning of 13 August 2022 the Van Suraksha Samiti (Forest Protection Committee) set fire to the homes of these adivasi families and destroyed their maize crop by letting loose cows and buffaloes in the fields.

Condemn Arrests and Brutal Beating of Comrade Arjun Lal in Sitapur

The CPIML Uttar Pradesh state unit has strongly condemned the vengeful arrest and brutal beating on 14 August at the Hargaon Thana of State Committee member and District in-charge Arjun Lal, who had gone to the Thana to register an FIR in connection with a case of oppression of dalits.
