Report on Eviction of Daman Fishermen

(The following is a fact-finding report by Gujarat CPIML in-charge Ranjan Ganguly and Laxman Bhai Wadia on the brutal eviction of fishermen from their ancestral villages in the Union Territory of Daman.)

IN 1155 A.D. Portugal defeated the Abyssinian Muslim chiefs and captured Motidaman ka Qila spread over 30,000 sq.m. From then until the accession by India in 1961 Daman and Diu were under Portuguese rule.

CPIML Condemns Brutal Lathi Charge on Unnao Farmers

CPIML strongly condemns the brutal lathi charge on farmers in Unnao on 16 November 2019 and onwards. The Uttar Pradesh State Secretary of the party Sudhakar Yadav has said that the Yogi government wants to forcibly crush the farmers’ demand for adequate compensation for their lands. On the one hand farmers are driven to suicide by the agrarian crisis and the burden of loans; on the other hand the government is acquiring their land, their only means of livelihood, at throwaway prices and when the farmers demand compensation they are lathi-charged.

INVESTIGATIVE reports by a journalist have exposed how the Modi Government introduced the Electoral Bonds scheme, overriding strong objections by the RBI and Election Commission which held that it would help channel black, offshore money into India’s elections and would destabilise India’s currency.

AIPWA Team Enquires into Oppression against Interfaith Couple in Chhattisgarh

AN AIPWA team enquired on 5-6 November 2019 into the oppression of interfaith couple from Dhamtari, Anjali Jain and Aryan Arya (Ibrahim Siddiqui). The enquiry team led by Dr Lakshmi Krishnan visited the One Stop Centre (Sakhi) Raipur, Women and Child Development Department Raipur, and also met the Raipur Collector and the victim’s husband. Although they were unable to meet the victim Anjali face to face, they succeeded in having a detailed telephonic conversation with her.

Delhi Factory Fire – AICCTU Protest and Fact Finding

ALL India Central Council of Trade Unions has sharply criticized Delhi government for its continued laxity in matters of industrial safety which has taken lives of hundreds of workers during last few years. Recently another factory in Jhilmil Industrial Area met with a fire accident taking the lives of three more workers. The AICCTU has said that these factory fires have become a phenomenon of greedy factory owners who never care for the lives of the workers while the Delhi gov.

Two Girl Students Disappear from Kasturba Girls’ Residential School in Bhojpur

TWO girls disappeared from their hostel in Saraiya Kasturba Residential School in Shahpur of Bhojpur in Bihar. This has been accused that the girls have absconded after harassment and exploitation by the Hostel warden. The Shahpur BDO and thana in charge reached to the spot after the villagers informed this incident to them. Villagers who sheltered those girls for sometime have suspected that the girls were forcibly subjected to sexual exploitation which led to their disappearance.
