THE family of people’s poet and political activist Varavara Rao alerted the world to his severely deteriorating medical condition inside Mumbai’s Taloja jail. His family said that on a phone call from him, they realised that he is hallucinating, and a fellow-prisoner intimated that he was unable to walk, go to the toilet and brush his teeth on his own.

This information led to a public outcry, resulting in Varavara Rao’s eventual hospitalisation.

CPIML Bihar State Secretary Kunal said in a statement on 4 July 2020 that the decision to ban the sale of loose oil is an anti-poor decision. He pointed out that most people in the country are unable to buy oil tins because of poverty and financial straits. They somehow manage to buy 50g or 100g oil and manage their needs. This being the case, the government must consider how the poor will be able to run their households if sale of loose oil is banned.

ALL India Progressive Women’s Association (AIPWA) has demanded from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar that the Bihar government should immediately take action on the report submitted by CBI in the Supreme Court with regard to shelter homes in Bihar.

CPIML Bihar State Secretary said in a statement on 2 July 2020 that the BJP-JDU government has abdicated all responsibility. Nitish Kumar had said that migrant workers would be provided work according to their skills and abilities inside Bihar itself. But nothing of the sort has happened. The government is neither getting Corona tests done; nor is it arranging for employment for migrant workers. Work is also unavailable in MNREGA.

THE CPIML Uttar Pradesh State unit said in a statement on 3 July 2020 that the incident at Chaubepur Thana in Kanpur, where 8 police personnel were massacred in the middle of the night, exposes the tall claims of the Yogi government on law and order. The CPIML asks Yogi a simple question: If, as you claim, all dreaded criminals have left Uttar Pradesh and gone away, then why did the Kanpur incident occur?

CPIML Bihar State Secretary Kunal said in a statement on 29 June 2020 that the charge-sheet filed by the CBI in the Srijan scam that happened under the BJP-JDU regime is unsatisfactory as efforts are still on to protect the big fish. The smoking gun points to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Sushil Modi and they should also be brought within the ambit of the probe.

The prices of petrol and diesel have been hiked everyday for the last fifteen days. Cumulatively, petrol prices have been hiked by Rs. 7.97 and diesel by Rs. 8.88. This is further crippling the lives of crores of our people.

THE All India Kisan Mahasabha has called for a Protest Day on 27 June against the exorbitant hike in petrol and diesel prices. AIARLA and RYA have announced that that they will also join the protest on 27 June. Kisan Mahasabha National General Secretary Rajaram Singh said that the crude oil prices in the international market have been cut by one-third since May 2014. But since the coming of the Modi government, there has been 69% taxation on petrol and diesel prices. Of the petrol price today, government taxes and various kinds of cess amount to Rs 58.
