The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) has raised pressing questions about the Prime Minister’s silence on two critical issues affecting Bihar: the need for special state status and central university status for Patna University.

In the early morning of June 17, a collision between the Kanchanjungha Express and a goods train, near Rangapani railway station in North Bengal claimed 15 lives and left 60 people injured. Among those dead are three railway employees, including the loco pilot and co-pilot of the goods train. The Kanchanjungha Express incident has once again exposed the tragic state of affairs of railway safety in India.

In a press conference held in Patna on June 8, CPIML General Secretary Comrade Dipankar Bhattacharya said that the mandate of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 is against the Modi government and its anti-people policies. The mandate also is a call to strengthen the battle in defence of the Constitution and democracy. Modi's big claim of crossing 400 has fallen flat on its face with states like Uttar Pradesh giving a severe blow to the BJP.

In a statement issued by CPI(ML) Central Committee on May 3, the party strongly condemned the closure report filed by Telangana police in the institutional murder of HCU student Rohit Vemula. The statement noted “today, another painful chapter unfolded in the tragic death of Rohith Vemula on 17 January, 2016.

On May 4th, a video containing animated characters of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Rahul Gandhi was posted by BJP Karnataka on their official ‘X’ handle’ (formerly Twitter). The CPIML filed a complaint with the ECI and the CEO Karnataka seeking immediate action against BJP National and State Presidents for the same.

Reject TISS Mumbai’s authoritarianism!

The CPIML expresses deep concerns over recent reports which state that Sainik Schools across the country will be handed over to private players, a majority of whom belong to the BJP-RSS and other Hindu Supremacist organisations. Sainik Schools, which is run under the Ministry of Defence, play a vital role in the recruitment process in armed forces.

CPIML General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya in a statement issued in March 29 has demanded a high-level judicial inquiry into the sudden death of former Uttar Pradesh imprisoned MLA Mukhtar Ansari. Amid the reports of possible custodial murder, a high-level judicial inquiry is needed to unearth the truth. CPIML noted that the magisterial inquiry announced by the government is inadequate.

AILAJ in a statement issued on March 31 condemned the letter issued by a “Lawyers’ Group”, and its immediate endorsement by Prime Minister Modi on the heels of the electoral bonds judgment, as a thinly veiled attack on the Chief Justice of India and the very idea of judicial independence.
