On August 4, under the banner of Adivasi Sangarsh Morcha (ASM), AIARLA and other organisations, hundreds of Adivasis embarked on a four day padayatra (foot march) in Anakapalli District of Andhra Pradesh demanding constitutional rights and legal protection and inclusion of non-scheduled area villages in Fifth Schedule of Indian Constitution.

All India Kisan Mahasabha organised a convention in Uttarakhand’s Lalkuan on ‘Demand of Revenue Village and Forest Right Act’ on 6 August. AIKM national secretary Purushottam Sharma was the keynote speaker. He said that the BJP government in Uttarakhand is befooling people residing in forest lands and forest villages by misleading them with wrong information regarding forest rights and related legislations. “The so called ‘double engine’ government is misleading on the question of declaring Bidukhatta revenue village, which was also BJP’s electoral promise.

The 9th National Conference of AIPWA will be held on 30 September to 1 October in Delhi. Mina Tiwari, general secretary of AIPWA said that in challenging times when the government has left no stone unturned to suppress the voices of freedom and democracy, women are trying to raise their voice on issues ranging from livelihood to rights, equality and justice, we can see an open attempt by the dominant social-religious class and the feudal elements to suppress their voices brutally.

The CPIML Uttar Pradesh secretary Sudhakar Yadav has condemned the police administration in Mirzapur for not lodging an FIR in the matter of the killing of a dalit youth which the police has called a case of suicide. The police misbehaved with the father of the deceased and used castiest abuses when he went in the thana to file an FIR. 

CPIML MLAs in Bihar have asked the state government to pass a resolution in the Assembly demanding to withdraw the GEAC approval and environmental clearance given to GM Mustard. Since this matter may soon be placed in the Parliament the party MLAs have asked the Chief Minister to adopt a resolution in the state assembly to send a clear message to the centre in view of the dangers associated with the GM crops and for the benefit of the country's farmers and people’s health.

CPIML GS at Cuba-Palestine Solidarity Event

On the 70th anniversary of the Moncada Barracks attack, which gave rise to Movimiento 26 Julio laying the path towards Cuban Revolution, a convention 'Fidel and Palestine' was organised by the National Committee for Solidarity with Cuba in Delhi on July 26. Ambassador of Cuba Alejandro Simancas Marin Ambassador and Ambassador of Palestine Adnan Abu Alhaija were keynote speakers.

A Seminar on 'Matters of National Security - Concerns and Accountability' was held at Constitution Club in New Delhi on 1 August 2023. This was presided over by Ex-Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Meghalaya and Goa Satya Pal Malik and conducted by Dr. Sunilam and addressed by Congress leader Digvijay Singh, CPIML General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, Kumar Ketkar, John Brittas, Prashant Bhushan and others.

The indefinite strike of ASHA workers in Bihar has entered into the fourth week without any solution in face of the state government’s unwillingness to implement the already agreed upon demands of the latter. The rural health services are on a halt for almost a month because of the insensitive attitude of the state government, said Shashi Yadav who is among the leaders who spearhead this historic assertion of the workers in the rural health sector for a nine-point charter of demands.

CPIML Bihar State Secretary Kunal has demanded from the Mahagathbandhan government of Bihar to start negotiations with the ASHA workers who are on an indefinite statewide strike for the last 11 days. The party has condemned the intimidatory and repressive tactics of the state administration with respect to the striking ASHA workers.
