A program to pay homage to Comrade Gopal Naidu was held on December 14, 2024 in Vinoba Bhave Vichar Manch at Nagpur’s Darampeth. Tributes were also paid to Comrade Rajendra Gangotri. Several eminent Leftist - Ambedkarite intellectuals from Nagpur took part in the program.
71-year-old Gopal Naidu, an activist, sculptor, painter, actor, writer and translator passed away on October 11, 2024. A resident of Nagpur, Comrade Gopal was a prominent and well-known figure in the field of art. In 2004, he played an important role on organizing a resistance program during the World Social Forum in Mumbai.
Comrade Prabhat Kumar, CPIML Central Committee Member, speaking at the event said that Comrade Gopal was an unwavering crusader for people's culture, and his art powerfully embodied the spirit of solidarity with people's movements and the relentless fight against fascism.
Comrades Gopal and Rajendra were two important pillars of left movement in Nagpur and played active role in movements of working class, Dalits, Adivasi and minority communities, and women.
Comrade Gohil, Adivasi activist Pandurang Bhele, Adivasi writer Barkhere, SUCI leader Shailesh Janbandhu, activist and intellectual Milind Pakhale, Chhattisgarh based cultural activist Kalagarh Dhariya, Com. AK Ghosh, CPI leader Sanjay Narkhedkar, Dr. Parvati (daughter of Rajendra Gangotri) along with several activists and intellectuals from Nagpur addressed the tribute event.
