Protests Across Bihar Against the Murder

The brutal murder of CPIML leader Comrade Sunil Chandravanshi has sparked widespread protests and a district-wide bandh in Arwal, Bihar on September 11. The bandh received significant support from the public, with shops largely remaining closed.

The bandh, organised by the CPIML and supported by local social activists, was marked by large gatherings and demonstrations. Protesters demanded the arrest of Com. Sunil Chandravanshi's killers, and condemned the rising crimes under the BJP-JD(U) government. The bandh witnessed blocking of roads, including near Bhagat Singh Chowk.

Speaking at the protest meeting, CPIML MLA Comrade Mahanand Singh said that the BJP-JD(U) government and its policies have emboldened the criminals and feudal forces. He said that there has been a rise in attacks on Dalits and the most vulnerable communities under this double engine government. Mahanand Singh denounced the government's alleged indifference towards the plight of the poor and its failure to address the ongoing violence and exploitation.

Sunil Chandravanshi was murdered by a gang associated with the BJP, led by criminals like Jumman, Raju, and Chandrakant Sharma on September 9. The attack occurred near Kochhaha Rice Mill, which is at a throw away distance from the Imamganj police station. The gang is notorious for its violent activities, including mass murders and extortion. Despite some arrests, the primary suspects remain at large.

Sunil Chandravanshi, an active member of CPI(ML) since 2009, was a prominent figure in local struggles like demands for proper electricity and better roads. His activism made him a target for local feudal and criminal elements.

The protesters have demanded that the government immediately arrest all criminals involved in the murder and called for providing Rs. 10 lakhs in compensation to the victim's family, and offer a government job to a family member. They have also called for a speedy trial and severe punishment for the perpetrators, and demanded action against the police station that allegedly failed to curb the gang's activities.

A Pratirodh Sabha, resistance meeting, is scheduled for September 21, 2024, at Imamganj Bazaar, demanding justice and actions against feudal-criminal gangs. Key speakers will include, Comrade Dipankar Bhattacharya, General Secretary of CPIML and Comrade Sudama Prasad, National Organization Secretary of All India Kisan Mahasabha and MP from Ara.

CPIML urges the public to join the protest on September 21 to demand justice and support for Sunil Chandravanshi’s family. The party calls for a collective stand against the criminal elements and the government’s alleged support for them.
