Calls for Release of Political Prisoners

A meeting organised by Association of Protection of Civil Rights and Concerned Citizens on September 17 expressing outrage over the continuing travesty of justice and denial of bail to the Delhi activists including Umar Khalid, Khalid Saifi, Gulfisha Fatima, Sharjeel Imam and others. The meeting titled Curtailed Freedom: A Travesty of Justice! held in the Constitution Club in Delhi.

The meeting was addressed by CPIML General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya along with family members of the detainees, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh and advocate Shahrukh Alam.

Speaking at the meeting, Comrade Dipankar said that it has been more than four years that leading activists of anti-CAA protests in Delhi have been languishing in jail on framed-up charges of Delhi Riots without trial or bail even as the real orchestrators of the February 2020 Delhi carnage roam free. Will the Supreme Court which has upheld the right to protest in West Bengal ensure justice for Delhi activists?

The second half of the meeting was addressed by Caravan Editor Hartosh Singh Bal, actress-activist Swara Bhaskar, comedian Kunal Kamra and others.

The meeting called for the release of all political protesters, including those jailed for participating in the anti-CAA movement and charged under fabricated cases.
