Guwahati, September 6, 2024 : The CPIML has demanded the resignation of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as his stay in office will further endanger unity among people and political stability of the state. The party called for a protest in Guwahati which was attended by CPI(ML) State Secretary Bibek Das, Central Committee Member Balindra Saikia, All India Students' Union State President Subrat Talukdar, All Assam Progressive Women's Union State Secretary Mrinal Devi and Biplobi Yuva Sanstha State Leader S.K.
Himanta Biswa Sarma’s role in perpetrating communal violence, spreading hatred and deep rooted corruption is condemnable. CPIML has demanded a high-level inquiry into the assets of the Chief Minister's family members. Moreover, his government’s anti-people policies like forcefully imposing smart metres, terrible price rise, unemployment etc are breaking the backbone of the already suffering people. Its divisive policy of CAA needs to be stopped immediately.
The AICCTU State President Biren Kalita, Dhiraj Das, Janik Burman and other leaders participated in the meeting. Party state secretary Bibek Das said the BJP government is now isolated from the people and is promoting communal violence, hatred and division as a last refuge. The Chief Minister is deeply entrenched in corruption as he has illegally acquired mountainous assets in the name of his wife and family members. The Chief Minister has been promoting and inciting hate violence against Mia Muslims from the floor of the Assembly in violation of the Constitution. The government is silent on issues like implementation of Article 6, repeal of CAA, publication of NRC final list etc., and wants to label Muslims as enemies of Assam.
