Peasants and Workers

The 19th Congress of Peasants and Workers Party was held on 2-3 August at Pandharpur, District Solapur in Maharashtra. CPIML General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya addressed the inaugural session as the main speaker.

The Congress venue was renamed as Ganpatrao Deshmukh Nagar after the popular PWP leader. After a traditional Maharashtrian welcome Comrade Dipankar lit up the torch. He was joined on the Dias by the Maharashtra state secretaries of CPI and CPIM, Gen. Sec. of Lal Nishan Party, Organising Secretary of Satyashodhak Communist Party and State Secretary of the Samajwadi party. The leaders of PWP from various parts of the state and mass organisations joined them on the dais.

Dipankar Bhattacharya conveyed fraternal greetings on behalf of the CPIML for the 19th Congress of PWP and recalled the legacy of Solapur district in the freedom struggle, the Solapur commune, the Sant tradition, and Basweshwara’s contribution. He underlined the need for a united left and people’s assertion at the current juncture and expressed confidence that the ties between our two parties will be further strengthened through joint struggles. He said that the left is present in all the villages, towns and cities as a determined force to challenge the communal, Manuvadi and corporate fascist assault, and we need to increase the assertion of the masses in the coming days.

CPI state secretary Comrade Lande, Uday Narkar, CPM State Secretary, Bhimrao Bansod, Lal Nishan Party and Kishore Dhamale of SCP also addressed the inaugural session.
