In a victory to the Anganwadi workers in Bihar, the state government has ensured withdrawal of its order to deregister 18,220 Anganwadi workers and assistants. During the strike action by Anganwadi workers and assistants across Bihar, under the banner of Bihar Rajya Anganwadi Workers Union (AICCTU & Gope faction), the state government had moved to deregister large number of workers and assistants.
Condemning the Bihar government’s move as regressive and anti-worker, CPI(ML) Liberation and Anganwadi workers union had urged the government to withdraw the order. Last month, the union gave an ultimatum to the state government to withdraw the order, and that otherwise the workers are ready to hit the streets from January 7th. The union leadership and MLAs from CPI(ML) met the state government representatives and CM Nitish Kumar calling for withdrawal of the draconian order.
The bourgeoning Anganwadi workers movement and intervention of CPI(ML) forced the state government to withdraw the order on January 6th and also provided assurance regarding the increase of honorarium paid to Anganwadi workers, which was one of the main demands of the striking workers.
Congratulating the Anganwadi workers and assistants in their victory, All India Scheme Workers’ Federation National Secretary Comrade Shashi Yadav said that the withdrawal of the draconian order by the government is the result of the unity and strength of Anganwadi workers.
Com. Shashi Yadav also added that the struggle of Anganwadi and others scheme workers will continue in Bihar and across the country to ensure dignified wages, status of government employee and rights.
