World Indigenous People’s Day Celebrated in Palghar

Thousands of Adivasis people assembled at the district headquarter in Palghar on 9 August to celebrate Indigenous People’s Day and to raise concerns on many of their problems and unresolved issues. While this was a great display of adivasi culture and society, the people gathered forcefully raised their voice against the continuing violence against Kuki and other communities in Manipur.

A large contingent of Adivasi Sangharsh Morcha took part in this assembly. They expressed their anguish against and solidarity with the people of Manipur. Many cultural programmes were also performed on this occasion which was preceded by a big rally. Many organisations including Adivasi Ekta Parishad, Bhuni Sena and ASM joined this rally.

The Adivasi Sangharsh Morcha activists also met with the district collector and handed him a 25-point charter of demands that included demands of immediate measures to stop atrocities against women and curb the conflict in Manipur, stop evictions and displacement of adivasis in various parts of the country as well as to protect the Arre colony and forest in Mumbai. The ASM activists Ashok Tandel, Vilas Dumada, Ramu Satvi, Ajay Mere, Prakash Palil, Dilip Ghaghade, Kamlakar Balashi and CPIML Maharashtra Secretary Shaym Gohil were present on this occasion.
