The three constituents of the opposition parties in the Maha Vikas Aghadi, The Shivsena (UBT), Congress and the NCP had given a call for a demonstration on the 17th December 2022. This demonstration was to culminate in a Public meeting in front of the CSMT railway station/Mumbai Municipal Corporation building. The main issues highlighted in the appeal were the condemnation of the derogatory comments made by the Governor Koshiyari and other BJP leaders against Shivaji, Mahatma Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule who laid the foundation of the movement to spread education to the downtrodden and the founder of the Rayat Shikshan Sanstha – an initiative which spread education to every nook and corner of rural Maharashtra. Other issues were the rising prices, unemployment and the provocative steps taken by the BJP led Karnataka Government in the still unresolved border dispute between the two states.
The Progressive Alliance in Maharashtra, of which CPIML is a part, consisting of the left and democratic parties decided to extend issue based support to the Maha Morcha and mobilized their cadre with red flags, banners and banners highlighting the burning issues. The Trade unions under the banner of TUJAC also joined the call. The public meeting was addressed by the leaders of MVA including Uddhav Thakre, Sharad Pawar as well as the leaders of CPI, CPM & PWP. They called for the withdrawal of the Governor for his continued derogatory comments and behaviour. CPIML leaders Com. Shyam Gohil and Com. Suresh Mandal participated in the demo along with hundreds of supporters.
