Protest March Against ABVP

AISA has taken up a campaign against the FYUP (Four Year Undergraduate Programme). Hundreds of students took part in the protest on On 7th December in Delhi University on this issue. The students' assertion against exploitation is too big a threat to ABVP that their sole response was ruthless violence. When students were campaigning in Ramjas College, ABVP goons obstructed them threatening and disrupting the campaign. When AISA leader Abhigyan went to talk to them 8-10 ABVP goons spotted him on the way and gathered around and severely beaten him up. He has received many injuries of serious nature, many of his wounds were stitched.

The place of the incident is hardly 200 m away from the Maurice Nagar police station. Still, the Delhi Police has failed to nab the ABVP goons who have been resorting to violent attacks on their opponents in the DU campus in the last many days. The ABVP goons attacked the Delhi State President of AISA, Comrade Abhigyan Devyani Gandhi, grievously injuring his eye and lips, which had to be stitched multiple times. Comrade Abhigyan was encircled and attacked by dozens of ABVP goons.

Prior to this attack, these goons had attacked members of DU AISA unit, Com. Sanatan and Com. Sheel, with the later being also subjected to casteist slurs due to his Dalit background.
In most university campuses, the ABVP is fast degenerating into a goon brigade. Beating up students and even teachers and unleashing violence and vandalism to disrupt expressions of dissent, dialogue and diversity, in short democracy, in university campuses is what passes for 'character building' and 'nation building' in ABVP parlance.

On 8th December, DU students held protest against this attack demanding arrest of ABVP goons accused of injuring AISA activists Abhigyan, Santan and Sheel. While peaceful protesters were brutally detained by the Delhi Police and attacked students demanding arrest of ABVP leaders Harsh Chaudhary and Ashwini Yadav, who led and perpetrated violence in DU!

The Delhi Police exposed itself as the protector of ABVP goons in the Delhi University campus. The Delhi Police refused to file FIR under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and arrest the perpetrators. After spending 8 hours at the Maurice Nagar Police Station, AISA called for protest at Arts Faculty.

At the protest, AISA along with students of DU marched from Arts Faculty towards the Maurice Nagar Police Station. Right outside of Ramjas College, Delhi Police cracked down on the march and detained about 15 protesters, dispersing the rest. The detainees were released from Burari Police Station at 5:30 PM. The same Police which refuses to arrest the goons lashes out with all its might on peaceful protest.

AISA demands immediate arrest of Harsh Chaudhary and Ashwini Yadav. Delhi Police must act.

The AISA's ongoing campaign in DU against the New Education Policy (NEP) and FYUP has been receiving a warm response from the common students. This has irked the ABVP and they have attacked thrice in the previous week. The irony is that the ABVP goons who are using violence to quell debate and discussion are being protected by the Delhi Police. If the Delhi police is left with an semblance of duty towards protecting law and Constitution, they should immediately arrest the ABVP goons.
