Modi’s Gujarat Model of Governance is a model of destruction.
People from various walks of life gathered on 4 November in Patna at Buddha Smriti Park to condole the unfortunate deaths of nearly 140 people including children at Morbi in Gujarat on 30 October. The memorial meeting was organised by CPIML Patna City committee. Activists, prominent citizens and commoners joined in and lit candles in memory of those killed in the bridge collapse which was a result of governmental connivance with corrupt contractor nexus.
The people gathered also paid tribute to veteran leader of agricultural workers’ struggle in Darbhanga Comrade Lakshmi Paswan who died on 4 November and photojournalist AP Dubey who also died this week.
The condolence meeting was addressed by CPIML senior leader KD Yadav, Kisan Mahasabha’s Shiv Sagar Sharma, AIPWA Bihar secretary Shashi Yadav, Kumar Parvez, Anita Singh, Anil Anshuman, AIPF leader Kamlesh Sharma and many others.
The speakers said that the Morbi bridge collapse exposes the true nature of BJP’s much hyped development model which is nothing but another name for destruction and mass killings. BJP governments are playing with the lives of common people by serving the vested interests of capitalists. Today everybody wants to know why the BJP played with the lives of more than 140 people by giving a watchmaker company a contract to repair a bridge. On the day the nation lost so many lives in Morbi, PM Modi was in Gujarat addressing a rally. His visit to the hospital the next day showed the reality of his own Gujarat model where lack of proper health facilities was evident. Even after so many days no one in the government has neither apologised nor any official been removed for corruption. In the name of taking action only some lower-level employees were arrested while the actual perpetrator, the owner of the company, is not touched as he allegedly enjoys the backing of the ruling regime.
The speakers condemned the Gujarat government and the BJP for their insensitivity and corruption and called for a mass movement to oust Modi regime from the seat of power in 2024 and defeat the BJP in ensuing state elections in Gujarat. It was demanded to give proper compensation for the families of those killed, free and full treatment of all injured, action against responsible officers and against Oreva company and arrest of its owner.
