CPIML has welcomed the decision taken by Jharkhand Assembly to increase the reservation quota for SC/ST/OBC/EBC castes to 77%. The Jharkhand Assembly passed a Bill in this regard on 11 November.
Party’s Bihar State Secretary Kunal has demanded passing of a similar Bill from the Bihar government in the Winter Session of the state Assembly. He also stated CM Nitish Kumar’s statement issued recently in support of increasing the reservation quota after the recent SC verdict regarding EWS reservations.
The CPIML has opposed the EWS Reservations and demanded a review by a larger bench of the Supreme Court. In a press conference held in Patna party’s general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya said that the EWS verdict is against the basic spirit of the Constitution and more than 80% people living below poverty line are SC, or ST or OBC/EBCs but the 103rd constitutional amendment brought in by Modi government just before the 2019 general elections excludes this huge population from the purview of the economically weaker sections, which is highly discriminatory.
Comrade Dipankar said that the Sant Samagam being held in Buxar of Bihar to be attended by many BJP minded State Governors and many chief ministers of BJP ruled states, is another design of RSS-BJP’s divisive politics to create instability in the state. He cautioned all democratic forces and parties to be vigilant against any attempt towards communal polarisation in the state.
He further added that the formation of Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar has given new hopes to the youth in the state, but the lack of proper initiatives in the direction of the appointment of teachers is also giving way to resentment. Moreover, displacement of the poor without alternate housing arrangements is going on which must be stopped. The state government should also need to be more cautious against the politics of communal polarisation. The recently held bye-elections have reflected some increased resentment against the government which should be taken seriously and the Nitish government must first take concrete initiatives to fulfil the promises made by the Mahagathbandhan to the people of the state.
