On 28 August 2022, at 9 PM, Ramchandra Vanvasi, a member of the Vanvasi community, had come to the Kali temple in Pipri village in UP’s Chandauli to pay obeisance and pray for the recovery of his ailing sister-in-law. Ramchandra, a resident of Madhuban Bahorikapur Banvasi Basti, had come to Pipri to get medicine for his sister-in-law but could not get the medicine, after which he went to the temple to pray. On seeing Vanvasi in the temple, the Brahmins in the village became enraged and started abusing him. When he protested, the Brahmins started kicking and beating him brutally with sticks and lathis and phoned 112 to call the police and accused Ramchandra of theft. The police arrived and left after telling both parties to come to the police station in the morning.
Ramchandra was on his way to the police thana with other villagers to register his complaint when the Brahmins waylaid him and had him arrested. In the police lockup, Ramchandra and his brother were tortured by the police.
Against the injustice being done to the Vanvasi community, a CPIML delegation along with dozens of men and women from the Madhuban Bahorikapur Vanvasi Basti went to the Thana, met the Thana chief and demanded that an FIR be registered and legal action taken. The ML leaders said that if injustice to Vanvasis in this matter continues, a mass meeting will be organized in Bahorikapur to raise the issue. The CPIML delegation was led by Shashikant Singh.
