AIPWA Bhilai organized a meeting at Shardapara on 18 August 2022 to condemn the beating to death of a dalit boy studying in Saraswati Shishu Mandir Rajasthan for drinking water from a pot meant for 'savarnas' and the release of the 11 criminals convicted and sentenced to life in the Bilkis Bano gang-rape case. A memorandum addressed to President Droupadi Murmu was submitted to Thana SO, Chhavani, Durg District. The memorandum said that on the one hand the country is calling the 75th anniversary of independence an Amrit Mahotsav, but on the other hand innocent dalit children are being beaten to death for drinking water from a pot meant for upper caste savarnas! Such casteist violence cannot be tolerated at any cost. Further, the Prime Minister talks about respect for women in his Independence Day speech, but on the same day the 11 convicted and sentenced gang-rapists of Bilkis Bano, who also committed heinous murders, are released onthe same day!
People are deeply grieved at the above facts and make the following demands:
1. Strict punishment should be given to the teacher who beat and killed dalit student Indra Meghwal.
2. Stern measures must be taken against caste discrimination prevailing in all private institutions.
3. Stern action against schools and teachers inculcating and encouraging casteist and racial discrimination.
4. Any kind of physical violence done on students in schools must be declared a crime.
5. Roll back release of the 11 convicts in Gujarat who gang-raped Bilkis Bano and killed 7 persons including Bano's young daughter.
The leaders and activists who attended and addressed the meeting include Savitri Mahilang, Neera Daharia, Ishwari Baghel, Kondi, Tajneen Tandon, Anar Gaekwad, Meena Kosre, Manju Kurre, Ramabai, Durga Jangde, Ashok Miri, RP Chaudhury, Dinanath Prasad, Lokendra Sonteke, Dr Dixit Bhimgade, Pawan, Brijendra Tiwari and others.
