The sanitation workers' organization Safai Karmachari Ekta Manch affiliated to AICCTU held its 8th annual conference in Prayagraj. Addressing the conference, AICCTU State Secretary Anil Verma said that the Municipal Corporation area is increasing year on year but regular sanitation is not being recruited. The government which boasts of 'Swachchata Abhiyan' (Cleanliness Drive) has left the cleaning of the city to the outsourcing and contract system. The government is fully responsible for the sewer deaths of sanitation workers. Workers must force the government to revoke the 4 labour codes in the same way that farmers struggled for 13 months, martyred themselves and forced the government to revoke the 3 farm laws.
AICCTU National Secretary Kamal Usri said that workers will show this anti-worker government the way out in the current Assembly election. This government has caused maximum harm to the working people and will be made to pay for it.
The following office-bearers were unanimously elected in the conference: Ramsiya (President); Dharmendra, Premchand and Akshay (Vice Presidents); Santosh Kumar (Secretary); Sotilal and Ashok Kumar (Deputy Secretaries); Rinku (Treasurer); Shiv Charan, Nanki, Chunnilal, Anil Valmiki, Rupa Devi, Anil Verma and Ramji Pal (Executive members). Greetings were exchanged for Sant Ravidas Jayanti and a pledge was taken to fight against caste oppression. The conference concluded with two minutes' silence in honour of martyred sanitation workers.
