Arup Kumar Mohanty, general secretary of the Assam Rural Workers' Union, said that the Assam government should follow guidelines issued by the judiciary with respect to the persons displaced recently from their own forest lands. He has asked the administration to provide all basic amenities to the displaced persons including food and clean drinking water as well as medical facilities. The forest dwellers left the place, unwillingly, following the orders of the Court. All the people have set up temporary camps at the places specified by the Hojai district administration.
He also reiterated his demand for the arrest of former MLA of Hojai assembly constituency Shiladitya Deve for spreading hate against the displaced minority community members.
Arup Kumar Mohanty visited the displaced people on Nov 23 and assured them that his organisation will continue the struggle till the guarantee of their right to land, housing and food is achieved.
