A rally for adivasi rights was organized at Bajra in Hehal (Jharkhand) on 10 August. A large number of adivasis under the banner of Mahila Sarna Samiti and 22 Pahada Samajik Utthan Samiti pledged to intensify the struggle for forest lands and people's rights. The adivasi rights rally started from Adivasi Maidan and culminated in a meeting at Chunav Tangri Akhada. The meeting was presided over by Laxmikant Bhagat and conducted by Nisha Rani Tigga and Jivanti Lakra. A minute's silence was observed for the martyrs and adivasi leaders Birsa Oraon, Virendra Bhagat, Sami Hemram, Fr Stan Swamy and Bali Bhagat.
Speakers at the meeting said that Adivasi Day is being observed this year on the issue of protecting land, culture and language of adivasis. The struggle against land loot by land mafia will be intensified. The Hasa and Chasa are the identity of adivasis and we will not allow them to die out. A 5-point resolution was passed for the protection of adivasi identity, traditions and culture. The meeting was addressed by adivasi leaders including Budhwa Oraon, Shiva Kachhap, Bhuvaneshwar Kewat and Mewa Oraon.
