AIARLA Demands Covid Lockdown Relief

Under the countrywide Demands Day on 21 June AIARLA organized dharna protests at Blocks across Uttar Pradesh and submitted memorandums addressed to the Chief Minister. The memorandum demanded Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia payment to families of all who died in the Covid period; 15 kg rice/wheat, dal, edible oil per unit per month for all the poor; nutritious food for children; 4 months' advance MNREGA wages; Rs 500 MNREGA daily wages and guarantee of a full year's work for all; Rs 10000 lockdown allowance per family; guarantee of availability of oxygen, ventilators, paramedical staff, doctors and nurses at all PHCs and CHCs; home-to-home vaccination in villages.

Memorandums were submitted at Maniar and Nawanagar in Ballia District. AIARLA National President Shriram Chaudhury said that the Yogi government has failed on all fronts. Large scale Covid deaths have occurred in villages. The Modi government has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court that it is not possible to pay ex-gratia payment to the families of those who died. The government has money for the Central Vista but not for the rights of the poor. Unemployment is at its peak and villages are starving. In this situation 5 kg ration is not sufficient; it is the government's responsibility to ensure adequate food for all. In the coming days AIARLA will intensify protests on these issues.

Protests were held and memorandums submitted at various Blocks in Ghazipur, Sitapur, Chandauli, Devaria, Jaunpur, Banaras, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Jalaun and other Districts.
