CPIML and AIPWA began a dharna on 27 July 2020 at Bichhiya (Sadar) against the criminal-police nexus prevailing in Chandauli District. In early July District Panchayat member Mahendra Rao and his agents forcibly climbed into the home of an AIARLA activist, partially stripped the women of his family and beat them up. Despite being named in the complaint, the Chakiya police removed the names of Mahendra Rao and his accomplice Sanjay from the FIR (No. 0112/20, Thana Chakiya). The main accused pressurized the victims by conniving with the police and registered an FIR against victim woman and her son alleging harassment and put pressure for their arrest.

In another incident at Bilaridih village in Alinagar Thana, no action was taken by the police against the killers of Manoj Bind and they were left to roam scotfree.

The dharna on 27 July was started for demanding justice in the above incidents. Addressing the dharna, CPIML State Secretary Sudhakar Yadav said that Uttar Pradesh is fast becoming the state for criminals. The incidents at Bilaridih and Chakiya (Gayaghat) clearly show that the Chandauli police are more interested in protecting criminals than in taking action and punishing them. District Secretary Anil Paswan said that the struggle would continue until Mahendra Rao’s name is added in the FIR and an FIR is registered against the killers of Manoj Bind and they are arrested.

The dharna was lifted after the Nayab Tahsildar Sadar reached the dharna spot and assured that action would be taken by 30 July.
