Bahapatti in Hanuman Nagar Block, Darbhanga District is surrounded on all four sided by flood waters. For around 2 kms, there is no road free on any side; it seems an unending sea of water. The only mode of transport is by boat. But so far the government has provided no boats for this village. People are dependent upon private boats for transportation.
The local MP is from the BJP and the local MLA from the RJD. The Mukhiya of the Panchayat is associated with the RJD. But no government representative or people’s representative has so far gone to this village to take stock of conditions.
Similar flood conditions are to be seen every year, but neither the local MP or MLA nor the Nitish-Modi government’s administration have the time for finding a stable solution to the problem. A CPIML team visited Bahapatti village by boat on 18 July and discussed the people’s issues with them. There is considerable anger against the Nitish-Modi government among the people, as also against those who are supposed to be representing the people. A meeting will be held there soon to finalize the strategy for agitation.
