ON 11 February 2020 the accused persons including the main accused Brajesh Thakur in the Muzaffarpur Shelter Home case were sentenced. AIPWA has called this a victory of justice and said this victory was made possible by the long struggle carried on by the women of Bihar and the Shelter Home girls standing firm in their statements despite all kinds of threats. However, the police, CBI and government have saved the political protectors in this case from being exposed. AIPWA will continue the fight to bring them to justice in the coming days.
AIPWA General Secretary Meena Tiwari said that it is to be hoped that the Bihar government will learn a lesson from this episode and the government will take steps to ensure the safety of poor and orphan girls in Bihar. Meena Tiwari said that the CPIML had raised this matter in the Assembly and the Opposition came together in support of women. After that, many people filed separate petitions in the Supreme Court. The people of Bihar showed a high degree of resolve and determination in this matter. All women’s organizations including AIPWA are still alert and Bihar’s daughters and women will continue the fight.
