The Court highlighted the glaring absence of legal protections for this workforce and underscored the urgent need for comprehensive legislation to safeguard their rights.

Brutal Beating of Imam Md. Firoz in Madhubani Exposes BJP-isation of Bihar Police

CPIML General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya strongly condemned the incident of brutal beating by Bihar police of an innocent Imam, Mohammad Firoz, of Kataiya in Madhubani and called this another dangerous signal of ongoing BJP-isation of the police in the state. The youth Imam was beaten up during a vehicle check, for which police’s job is to charge a fine or seize the vehicle if law permits it. But the physical assault made was completely illegal bearing communally biased intentions.

Stop Human Rights Violations, Extra-judicial Killings and Militarisation of Bastar

The escalated war on Maoists has seen security forces in Chhattisgarh kill at least 47 Maoists within 3 weeks of January 2025, while it is reported that 250 Maoists were killed in Chhattisgarh in 2024. Amit Shah has set March 2026 as the deadline to make India Maoist-free. This means large-scale proliferation of security camps in Bastar, use of advanced warfare equipment including Israeli drones, and unmitigated extra-judicial violence by the state.

Murder of Journalist Mukesh Chandrakar: Demand for Independent Probe and Swift Action Against Perpetrators

The All India Lawyers Association for Justice (AILAJ) is deeply shocked by, and unequivocally condemns, the murder of young freelance journalist Mukesh Chandrakar. Mukesh, a native of Chattisgarh, had gone missing on the 1st of January, 2025. Two days later, on the 3rd of January, his body was found dumped in a septic tank on the property of a contractor, whose corrupt dealing he had reported on and exposed earlier. The contractor is currently said to be absconding.

Condemn the Arrest of Students Observing Manusmriti Dahan Diwas

AISA condemns the arbitrary arrests of 13 students at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) by UP Police. The students were arrested for commemorating Manusmriti Dahan Diwas by burning the text and have since then been sent to judicial custody for 14 days under non-bailable charges. They have also been denied access to their families and legal counsel. AISA also condemns police action against Jay Saraf from Sitamarhi, Bihar for a similar commemoration on this historic day of resistance.

In a letter dated December 10, 2024 to Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, All India Lawyers’ Association for Justice (AILAJ) has called for immediate action against Jst. Shekhar Kumar Yadav, Allahabad High Court, for his open bigotry, prejudice and unconstitutional conduct unbecoming of a judge of the High Court.
