CPIML with five left parties jointly held protests on June 16 in West Bengal to press for the demand to the Modi government for declaring the cyclone Amphan as national disaster and to provide adequate relief to the millions of affected people in the state. Protest were part of joint left protest calls in all states by left parties on a set of demands which include: 1) Monthly income support of Rs 7500 to all families for next 6 months. 2) 10 kg per month food grains for six months to all. 3) Return journey facility with free fare, food and water to all migrant workers who wish to go back. 4) Extend MNREGA to include urban poor and enhance the wage rates in the scheme.
Protests were held in many places in the state. In Kolkata, assembled comrades including CPIML Politburo member Kartick pal and CPI(M) state secretary Suryakant Mishra were detained and taken to the Lalbazar police station. The protesters also demanded to increase the Covid 19 testing in the state.
CPIML Campaign in Kerala
A campaign was organised by CPIML in Kerala in response to the joint call by 5 Left parties focusing on immediate relief to the people, support to all who have been rendered jobless and without means of sustenance following the covid-19 pandemic and prolonged lockdown.
The demands were widely taken up by the party cadres and sympathisers in several districts across the state through holding out placards and posters keeping with the norms of physical distancing. Comrade John K Erumeli, Secretary, Kerala and other senior comrades led the respective programs organized in Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kannur districts. Comrades OP Kunjupillai, Pathiyur Vishwan, Joy Peter, NS Ajithan, Sankaran, Johnson Ambattu, Manoj Madhavan and Venugopalan were among the leaders who participated. In Kollam district, Comrade Prince Puthur J led the protest. A dharna in front of GPO office was held at Trivandrum by the District Leading Team. Comrade S. Sugathan presided the Dharna which was inaugurated by Comrade DP Dasan. Comrade EB Babu made the welcome address and Comrade EK Shaji proposed the vote of thanks. Comrades RS Suji and Advocate Dr VV Ratheesh gave felicitation address in the Dharna led by Comrades NJ Vimalkumar and Shaiju K.
