CPIML held a dharna across the District of Azamgarh on 30 May in support of the ongoing agitation against the illegal capture of chakmarg and banjar lands (common lands) in the Devara region of the District. Activists sat on dharna in their own homes and offices and a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister via the Azamgarh District Collector.
Land mafias in the village with the connivance of the Pradhan are trying to capture chakmarg and banjar lands at Naubrar Devara village in Maharajganj. The local police are also siding with the strongmen in this illegal capture. When the villagers failed to get justice from the Thana, DM and SP, they sat on an indefinite dharna in the village.
CPIML leader Jaiprakash Narayan said that dominant sections and mafias are riding high in the Yogi-Modi regime and government and administration are bowing down to them. The struggle launched by the poor will intensify and will not stop till the dominant caste-land mafia-police nexus is defeated.
The villagers have demanded punishment for the illegal occupants of the lands; removal of land mafia from Gram Samaj and banjar lands and distribution of these lands to the poor; and action against the partisan police personnel who sided with the dominant castes.
