THE International Workers’ Day was observed amidst lockdown with full vigour and strength by the workers, peasants, women, youth and democratic sections all over the country and in the world. People remembered the eight immortal martyrs of Chicago and pledged to continue the united struggle working class had started during the 19th century and had won many a battles including 8-hour working day. Workers also took a pledge to fight the current BJP regime for attacking working class rights particularly the recent announcement of 12 hour working day in the garb of fighting the pandemic.
Observing May Day 2020, CPIML and various mass organisations paid tribute to those workers who lost their lives when they were coming back home on foot due to unplanned lockdown and hunger. Tributes were also paid to those medics and paramedics who lost lives fighting the pandemic many of whom were not provided even the minimum required protective equipment.
CPIML, AICCTU and AIARLA members in all states hoisted flags at offices and residences and took the pledge to make the world better and beautiful devoid of any exploitation.
CPIML General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya conveyed party’s message through an appeal widely circulated in social media. He said that the current pandemic has glaringly exposed the mismatch between global capital and human survival and this has become absolutely essential and urgent to unite and fight towards building a new world.
