STUDENTS of various colleges from 8 districts of Tamilnadu met at Trichy on 25th October, 2019 to plan the campaign for the forthcoming AISA conference at Hyderabad. AISA's General secretary Sandeep Saurav addressed the students. He spoke about AISA's legacy of struggles against fee hike, cut in funds, cut in seats, cut in scholarships, privatisation and saffronisation of education, draft new education policy, non implementation of reservation policy etc and for affordable, public funded education. He said AISA won significant victories from the Delhi HC and Supreme Court to correct malpractices in implementation of OBC reservation policy. He appealed to the students to be in the forefront of any democratic struggles in society from farmers to workers. He said AISA is known for its commitment against harassment of women and fought many struggles for the formation of gender cell in educational institutions.
A set of demands and slogans were formulated for campaign and its Tamil translation was also done and released on the occasion, which includes abolition of NEET exam, No to Hindi imposition, as well as an end to privatisation. Shankar PB member of CPIML, Desikan and Asaithambi CPIML leaders in Tamilnadu and Thirumeninathan, state President of RYA also spoke. A 15 member organising team was formed with Bala Amudhan as Convenor.
