THE 9th national conference of All India Students' Association (AISA) has been held successfully in Hyderabad on 9th& 10th November, 2019. The conference was significant on several accounts. Firstly, this is the first time that AISA had its national conference in Hyderabad reflecting the organisation's expansion in the city of Telengana. The revolutionary legacy of the Telengana peasants’ movement has been a source of inspiration for AISA movement. Hyderabad is also a city that ignited the massive students struggle of Justice For Rohith against institutionalised casteism and political victimisation of Rohith Vemula and his friends by the fascist regime ruling the country today. In today's time when the present regime survives on most regressive exploitative structures of Indian society, the conference called for upholding the vision of an egalitarian India that the Telengana Movement and Justice for Rohith Movement fought for.
The conference happened in the backdrop of the brave student movement of today's time that took up the task of resisting fascist assault on education and universities since day one of Modi Regime. The organisation played significant role in the struggles such as the FTII movement against imposition of Saffron stooge as chairperson, movement against banning of Ambedkar Periyar study circle in IIT-M, the Occupy UGC Struggle against WTO dictated education policy, Justice for Rohith Movement, the Stand With JNU movement, the BHU women's movement against sexual harassment, massive students uprising against ABVP's hooliganism in DU, the Sadak Pe School movement for quality and accessible schooling in Bihar, the Young India Adhikar March for dignified employment for all.
The inaugural session of the conference was addressed by CPIML Polit Bureau member Com. Kavita Krishnan. Leaders from other left Student organisation like SFI, AISF & AIDSO were also present in the open session.
Around 270 Delegates from different colleges and universities across the country took part in the National Conference. Growing unemployment, fee hike and the state propagated communal attack on constitutional ethos were the main issues that emerged as concerns of students in the conference. Mob lynching of Dalits and Muslims, growing attack on women of the country and environment plunder by corporates were also discussed with great concern in the delegate session of the conference. The organisation resolved to fight against the disastrous design of the National Education Policy 2019 that proposes to close down government schools and colleges to facilitate private profiteering in education.
A National Council of 117 members and Executive Council of 57 members were elected. Comrade Sandeep Saurav and Comrade N Sai Balaji were elected as the National General Secretary and National President, respectively.
The National Conference passed the following resolutions
The judgement represents glaring contradictions between its premise and final verdict. Firstly, while the judgment recognises the Babri Masjid demolition as an act against law, the verdict ended up giving the land in favour of those who were behind demolition. Secondly, while the judgement talks of deciding on the basis of facts and not faith, the verdict has indeed marked the unfortunate triumph of majoritarian faith over facts and principles of justice. But it is important to emphasise that even this verdict has categorically recognised the criminality of demolition of Babri Masjid by Sangh Brigade on 6th December, 1992.
In the aftermath of the verdict we must ensure that the country does not see the repeat of communal blood bath of the 90s unleashed by the saffron brigade.
We must stand against every attempt by the Sangh Parivar to unleash a terror frenzy on the Muslim Community.
We should intensify our demand to punish the perpetrators of Babri Masjid demolition including well known leaders of the BJP.
Let us ensure that the coming 6th December will be marked as a day of unprecedented unity of the Indian people against communal politics of the Sangh Parivar.
The second regime of Modi Government has caused tremendous economic crisis in the country within a few months of its tenure only. Growing unemployment, thriving poverty, steady decrease of labour wage and rampant privatisation have proved 'Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikash' a blatant lie. In an undemocratic manner the government has made several anti-worker moves like passing Wage Code Bill, Amendment of UAPA act and RTI Act. In this grave situation in order to safeguard workers right from crony capitalist interest of the state various Trade Unions have called for a nation wide General Strike on 8th January, 2020. We, on behalf of AISA urge students across the nation to join the call for general strike and strengthen the struggle of workers of the country.
AISA resolved to strengthen the organisation across the country and defeat the fascist forces.
