ARMED goons protected by the BJP brutally attacked poor persons from the Tanti community at Rajaura village in Mufassil Thana, Begusarai District on the night of Holi. On receiving news of the attack on 22 March a CPIML team visited the spot and spoke with the victims.
The team found that the attackers perpetrated this attack for the express purpose of establishing their dominance. They badly beat up the poor persons, smashed their houses made of bricks, stones, thatching and asbestos, and created total havoc. One of the victims, Bulbul Devi, told the team that the attackers broke into the homes and misbehaved with the women.
Many people, including Vishnudev Tanti (65 years), Ram Uday Tanti (50 years), Pulis Tanti (45 years), Phujal Tanti (45 years), Angad Kumar (18 years), Birju Tanti (25 years), and Pulis Tanti’s wife Anganwadi Sahayika Kaushalya Tanti (45 years) were seriously injured in the attack and have been admitted to Begusarai Sadar Hospital for treatment. Members of the enquiry team went to Sadar Hospital and met the injured.
The police apprehended the culprits but immediately let them go. The terrified poor have been given no security. The CPIML has demanded immediate arrest of the culprits, proper care for the injured with the cost of treatment borne by the government, and security for the victim families.
