LEFT parties, democratic and dalit organizations observed the 8th martyrdom day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru with a rally which started from Town Hall and proceeded via Surajpol, Mukherjee Chowk, Bada Bazaar, Ghantaghar, Hathipol and Chetak Circle to culminate in a meeting at Mohata Park. Before the rally started, activists of these organizations garlanded the statue of Bhagat Singh at Sewashram Chowraha-Ayad Puliya and raised slogans of ‘Inquilab Zindabad’, ‘Down with Imperialism’ and ‘Long Live Shaheed Bhagat Singh’.
Addressing the meeting, CPI(ML) State Secretary Mahendra Singh Chaudhury said the aim of Bhagat Singh and his organization the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association was to end oppression by a country or a person over another country or person and establish an equitable and just society. The true tribute to Bhagat Singh would be to throw out the communal-fascist government which runs this exploitative machinery and then free society from this communal-corporate ideology. Earlier, CPIM City Secretary Rajesh Singhvi spoke about Bhagat Singh’s life and his evolution from an anarchist revolutionary to a Marxist and socialist. He said that Bhagat Singh’s martyrdom remains a source of inspiration for the youth of the country.
Bhim Sena leader Kailash Meghvanshi said that Bhagat Singh wanted to end the Manuvadi system in society and bring a social democratic system through revolution which would be similar to Ambedkar’s aim of establishing a casteless society. He said that a truly democratic society can be achieved only by following the ideologies of Bhagat Singh and Ambedkar.
CPI(ML) District Secretary Dr Chandradev Ola, CPIM District Secretary Pratap Singh, and Saurabh Naruka of CPIML also spoke and Shankar Lal Chaudhury presided over the meeting. Present at the meeting were Prof Hemchandra Chandaliya, DS Paliwal, Rinku Parihar, Jigyasu, Anish, Saurabh Gupta, and hundreds of workers and farmers from rural areas.
