A farmers-workers rights rally was organized on 5 March 2019 at Jhunjhunu under the banners of All India Kisan Mahasabha and AIARLA. The rally began at Gandhi Park and culminated in a meeting at the Collectorate. The participants in the rally raised slogans for fulfillment of election promises, loan waivers, implementation of Swaminathan Commission recommendations, 1 ½ times crop purchase price, Rs 5000 old age pension for farmers, housing for homeless, national level registration of landless, guarantee of Rs 600 minimum wage for workers, unemployment allowance for the educated unemployed, etc.
Addressing the farmers-workers meeting at the Collectorate, Kisan Mahasabha State convener Phulchand Dhewa said that the issues of farmers and workers are missing from the Lok Sabha election agenda despite constant struggles by farmers and workers against the Modi government’s anti-farmer anti-worker policies. Kisan Mahasabha National Secretary Ramchandra Kulhari said that today’s rally is to remind the Central government and the Gehlot government of their electoral promises and get them implemented through struggles. The Modi government had promised a purchase price of 1 ½ times production cost of crops. The Gehlot government had promised loan waivers for all farmers including KCC card holders. The Kisan Mahasabha will continue to struggle against the governments on these issues.
The meeting which was presided over by Deepchand Verma Kumavas was also addressed by Comrades Om Prakash Jharoda, Indraj Singh Charavas, Sheesh Ram, Dayaram, Kehar Singh and others. The meeting passed a resolution to support the Bharat bandh against the 13-point roster. In another resolution, the meeting condemned the BJP government’s shameless attempts to score political points over the martyrdom of soldiers and demanded that the government fulfill its electoral promises to farmers and workers.
