A farmers’ conference was organized on 27 January 2019 in Meerut District (Uttar Pradesh) at the initiative of the farmers’ organization Rashtriya Kisan Andolan. The conference was addressed by kisan leaders including VM Singh, Purushottam Sharma, Harbir Singh Neeloha, Ghulam Mohammed Jaula, Narendra Rana, and Kuldip Tyagi. The conference discussed the current agrarian crisis and the need for unity of farmers’ organizations to combat it. Addressing the conference, All India Kisan Mahasabha National Secretary Comrade Purushottam Sharma said that the current agrarian crisis is the result of governmental measures towards corporate farming and corporate dairy farming. He further said that the ruling class of India does not have a solution to this crisis. In order to bring Indian agriculture out of this crisis, it is necessary to come out of WTO, to remove agricultural commodities from the futures market, and to put a quantitative ban on the import of agricultural produce. In order to do this, the workers and farmers of the country must play a leading role in the acceleration of the battle for a big political change. AIKSS National Convener VM Singh appealed to all farmers’ organizations to join the All India Kisan Samanvay Samiti.
