Farmers-Workers Unity Rally in Arwal
ON 16 February, a farmers and workers unity rally was organized in Karpi (Arwal) on the occasion of their fifth district conference. Addressing the rally, CPIML General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya strongly condemned the attack on CRPF jawans in Pulwama and demanded that the terrorist attack on the CRPF jawans must be thoroughly investigated. It should be investigated that despite there being several check posts, how were the terrorists able to bring in 350 kg of explosives and carry out this attack. He said the CPIML stands in complete solidarity with the families of the jawans who were martyred in the attack. He further said that this government also discriminates between the martyrs. While the jawans of the armed forces are given the status of martyrs when martyred, the jawans of the paramilitary forces were denied this status. The paramilitary forces have been demanding this status and we stand with this demand. He said that the increasing terrorism was also a result of the failed policies of the central government. This is the time of elections and the Prime Minister is also trying to divert the attention of the people from the basic problems being faced by them.
He said that if we call Kashmir an integral part of the country, then we must also seriously try to address the problems of the Kashmiris. The BJP was in power in Kashmir in an alliance but did nothing to improve the conditions of the people there.
In the Muzaffarpur Girls Shelter Sexual harassment case, he said that an impartial CBI investigation as ordered by the Supreme Court is possible only if Nitish Kumar resigns as CM. Demanding Nitish Kumar’s resignation, he said that the sexual harassment and the brutal torture that the helpless girls residing in the shelter homes are being subjected to and the continued irregularities in the functioning of these homes, expose the real face of Nitish Kumar who has tried to improve his image through liquor ban and campaign against dowry-child marriage. His claims of having ended crime through liquor ban are a lie. Bihar has becoming a laboratory for crime, mob lynching and communal riots.
Com. Dipankar said the CPIML supports the efforts to form an anti- BJP front, however the front will have to be formed keeping in mind the demands of the people. No front can be formed at the cost of the dignity and rights of the poor. Presenting the CPIML’s claim on the Jehanabad Lok Sabha seat, he said that Jehanabad was the land of martyrdom of leaders like Com. Virendra Vidrohi, Com. Manju Devi and Com. Shah Chand, who gave their lives fighting for the issues of the workers, peasants and the poor. This has been the seat of the red flag. Only by respecting this struggle and strength and accepting the CPIML’s claim to this seat, can the gathbandhan (alliance) gain the strength of the poor- dalits and the workers.
