CPIML and other left activists held a massive protest in front of SSP of Gurdaspur in Punjab on 11 February against deliberate police inaction into the incident of murderous attack on Comrade Gurmeet Singh Bakhatpura during panchayat elections last month in village Nadhawali of Kalanaur panchayat when he was opposing booth capturing by some ruling party members on 30 December. Left leaders severely condemned the Punjab government saying that the police have turned into a stooge of ruling party. The activists held out a march in the city before the reaching to the SSP office where the demand to arrest the perpetrators of attach was raised by them.
Leaders of CPIML, CPI, CPM, RMPI, and Kirti Kisan Union rallied in solidarity against police nexus with the ruling Congress party. They termed this incident an attack on people’s right to vote and demanded arrest of Congress leaders who attacked comrade Gurmeet Singh. They condemned police administration which is acting as the agent of the Congress.
