Koderma activity

THE Jan Sankalp rally at the Bagodar in a tide of red flags raised aloft covered about 1 km around Bagodar bus stand and both sides of GT Road from Sariya Road to Hazaribagh Road, indicating clearly that the people of Koderma have sounded a clarion call against the policies of BJP government. Several journalists and writers brought out special write-ups on Mahendra Singh on the occasion of his martyrdom day. It has become clear that in the current political scenario, the CPI(ML) has emerged as the need of the hour for the people of Jharkhand—for adivasis, dalits, minorities, workers, farmers, women, para teachers, Rasoiyas, ASHAs and other scheme workers, for democracy and justice loving citizens, and for the educated and intellectual community. In preparation for the rally, the CPI(ML) and its mass organizations took many kinds of political initiatives in Koderma district.

Bagodar: On 22 December RYA organized a one-day convention focused on the attacks on dalits and minorities by BJP governments, addressed by former MLA Vinod Singh, MLA Rajkumar Yadav, and others. On 10 November a massive protest march attended by thousands of women and students was organized in Jamua to demand the sacking of the BJP MLA who had threatened a rape victim and her mother. On the same day AIPWA also held a protest march at Bagodar. On 15 November, observed as Jharkhand Foundation Day, para teachers agitating for regularization and respectable wages were brutally lathi charged by the police at Ranchi. A series of protests were organized against this: by AISA-RYA at Bagodar on 15 November; by AIPWA and CPI(ML) on 16 November; and by people’s representatives supported by the CPI(ML) on 17 November. A ‘Jail Bharo Abhiyan’ was again organized on 20 November where effigies of local MP Ravindra Rai and MLA Nagendra Mahto were burnt and many Party leaders and activists courted arrest. A protest by over 1500 people was organized at Giridih in support of the para teachers’ demands on 29 November.

Protests against land grabbing for GAIL and NHI companies were organized at Bagodar on 11 December. A Jan Sankalp campaign was held from 18 December (Comrade Vinod Mishra’s anniversary) and 16 January (Comrade Mahendra Singh’s martyrdom day). A 30 km long motorcycle rally was organized on 11 January from Ghaghri to Atka.
