PROTESTING against dominant forces beating up mahadalit sand workers with lathis and driving them out of the sand bank, sand workers led by the CPI(ML) blocked the Kirkiri sand bank at 11 pm on 21 November and from 3 am on 22 November they blocked the Ara-Sikaddi State Highway (along with sand-laden trucks) near Azimabad. At 10 am the Azimabad Thana in-charge gave a written assurance that work at the sand bank would go on as before and if anyone tried to drive out the sand workers, an FIR would be registered.
After securing this victory, the sand workers lifted the blockade on the sand bank and the highway. Mafia Raj would not be allowed on the sand banks which caters to the livelihoods of thousands of poor and Dalits workers. The protest was led by Nagendra Sao, Ajay Mehta, Premchand Rajak, Tulsi Musahar, Gorakh Paswan, Suday Ram and Nemolal Musahar.
