A people’s convention was organized on 15 October 2018 at the Constitution Club, Delhi on the topic ‘Bullet Train in India—at Whose Cost?’ under the banner of the Land Rights Forum (Bhumi Adhikar Manch). A number of farmers and adivasis from Maharashtra and Gujarat who have been displaced by this project were present at the convention.
All opposition parties had been invited to this program to stand in support of the affected adivasis and farmers and against land acquisition for the bullet train. D Raja (CPI), Ragesh (CPM), Purushottam Sharma (CPI(ML)), Pran Sharma (SUCI), DP Tripathi (INC), Javed (SP), and representatives from AAP, RJD, JD(S), Swabhimani Shetkari Sangathana, AIKSCC addressed the convention.
Addressing the convention, CPI(ML) CC member Purushottam Sharma said that our Party is active in the protests in Maharashtra and Gujarat against the bullet train. He pointed out that today the struggle is not about a bullet train, but about saving the land and livelihood of the farmers and adivasis of the country. This fight is also necessary for the food security of the country.
The program was conducted jointly by Kisan Sabha National Secretary Hannan Molla Bhumi Adhikar Manch leader Krishna Kant.
The convention unanimously passed a resolution to submit a resolution to the Government of Japan trough the Japanese Embassy, appealing to them to withdraw themselves for the bullet train project keeping in mind the affected adivasis and farmers and the massive protests by the opposition in the country.
