Taking the movement for accessible transportation forward AISA students staged a protest at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs demanding Metro Concessional Passes for DU students. A delegation of four students met Mr. Hardeep Puri who accepted the demand of the students to be genuine and promised that their demands will be met when the next fixation committee will be set up and a cap on fare for students will be fixed.
From past eight months AISA has been fighting for affordable and accessible transportation for students. Last week the students met the Delhi Chief Minister who passed the order that the DTC passes will be applicable in AC buses from next month.
Kawalpreet Kaur, President of AISA DU said, "Since last year, the students of Delhi University have been fighting consistently against the costly transportation in Delhi, which has made it unbearable for them to commute every day to college. We believe that it was the consistent struggle of our movement which forced the government to accept the longstanding demands of the students.” AISA congratulated the students’ community for their efforts in the movement.
