Professor GN Saibaba is no more. Freed in March after ten years of unlawful incarceration and torture, he passed away on 12 October 2024 at Hyderabad's Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences. A victim of continuous state repression, he will be remembered as an indomitable champion in the battle for democracy, justice and liberty.
Professor GN Saibaba will continue to inspire generations of Indians to fight for justice and freedom. His death, like that of Father Stan Swamy, is nothing short of institutional murder.
Professor GN Saibaba lost his mother while he was in jail. The system which lets the Anurag Thakurs and Brij Bhushan Sharan Singhs roam free, which releases the rapists of Bilkis Bano and the murderers of her family on the 75th anniversary of India's independence and which grants frequent paroles to the Ram Rahims of India, lets Sanjeev Bhatts languish and Stan Swamys die in jail while Saibabas lose their dear ones while being subjected to unlawful incarceration and endless torture. This system needs to go. The constitutional democratic republic of India deserves a robust rule of law and justice and nothing less.
Rest in power, Prof GN Saibaba! They knew how to persecute and torture you, but they had no answer to your courage and commitment. You will remain an inspiring icon of anti-fascist resistance for generations of human rights campaigners. Let the state be afraid of your way, we the people of India honour the great example you have set.
