Condemning the notice issued to CPIML State Committee member of Uttar Pradesh Com. Arjun Lal under Gunda Act, CPIML has noted that the Yogi government is attempting to intimidate and target people who are fighting for justice and rights.
CPIML State Secretary Sudhakar Yadav said “the notice to Arjun Lal is a reflection of the rule of terror and police state in Uttar Pradesh, which has the sanction of the Chief Minister Yogi as also the BJP. As CPIML continues to fight for dignity and justice for the Dalit communities, the criminal police-feudal nexus is attempting to create an atmosphere of terror by targeting activists.”
Earlier, Com. Arjun Lal was arrested and brutally beaten by the police on August 14, 2022 at the Hargaon Police Station. Arjun, along with the people from the Dalit community who faced caste violence went to the police station to lodge an FIR against the members of the dominant castes of Rikhipurwa village on August 14th. As soon they reached the police station, a few police personnel brutally attacked Com. Arjun and dragged him to the lock-up, while the villagers who were with him were also arrested and put behind bars. He was only released from jail after a month on 20 September 2022.
CPIML demanded immediate withdrawal of Gunda Act notice issued to Arjun Lal. CPIML also demands an unconditional withdrawal of all false cases imposed on many such activists in the state and speedy justice to all.
