Comrade Laxman Bedia, leader of Jharkhand General Mazdoor Union and a long time party activist died on 3 January in Ramgarh. He was suffering from cancer for some time but still was actively working and involved in the preparations for the forthcoming Party Congress. He suddenly experienced difficulty in breathing and succumbed before he could be taken to a referral hospital in Ranchi as advised by his doctors.
A very simple and easily accessible comrade, Laxman Bedia was very popular in his area of work. He was an uncompromising fighter for the oppressed. He joined CPIML after finishing his studies in 1988-89 and became a district committee member in Ramgarh. Since then he remained committed towards the party and the people. He was also AICCTU national council member as well as the joint secretary of Adivasi Sangharsh Morcha in Ramgarh-Hazaribagh region. He was also active in Bedia Vikas Parishad as its central body member. Owing to his diverse kinds of social commitments he also worked as a reporter for the magazine ‘Kachanar’ which was dedicated for the deprived, neglected and oppressed people in the society. He was an organiser of the unorganised sector workers. His loss is quite big and will be felt by the Jharkhand comrades for a time.
Comrade Laxman Bedia was cremated on the banks of Damodar valley on 4 January. Large number of people and party activists bid him farewell with revolutionary slogans and pledge to fulfil his dreams.
