Govt Must Not Evict Poor From Their Homes: Beguserai

CPIML Bihar State Secretary Kunal said the government must have heeded much earlier to the voices of the poor in Beguserai protesting on the issue of housing. He said that about 150 families from Mahadalit Musahar and other poor families have been settled for a long time by the side of the Beguserai railway line. The Railways have issued a notice to all these poor people to vacate that place. This has resulted in a serious housing problem for them. They kept meeting the Beguserai Circle Officer with the demand for alternative housing but they got nothing except empty assurances.

Distressed by the administration's indifference, all the poor families under the CPIML banner started an indefinite 'Ghera dalo-Dera dalo' agitation on 12 April in front of the Beguserai Collectorate. This agitation was into its 6th day when the administration under pressure of the movement was forced to withdraw the eviction notices and promised for alternative arrangements before any such order in future.

The CPIML demands that the Bihar government should intervene directly in the future in similar matters and direct the local District administration to arrange alternative rehabilitation for all the poor families who are facing the brunt of administrative apathy and neglect in the name of so called ‘development’ policies.
