CPIML Bihar has expressed deep anguish at the large number of deaths in the state during Holi due to poisonous liquor consumption and conveyed condolences to the victim families. State Secretary Kunal has said on 21 March that despite all the tall claims of the government, the havoc wreaked by illicit liquor continues unabated. At least now the government should stop its pretence of 'social reform' and take action against the real culprits.
He pointed out that the CPIML had reiterated many times that the poisonous liquor business is flourishing under the politician-administration-liquor mafia nexus. These tragic incidents will not stop until action is taken against this nexus. But Nitish Kumar is constantly ignoring this truth, and instead of taking action he makes hypocritical pretences of various kinds. The result is in front of us for everyone to see.
We once again aver that if the government truly wishes to save Bihar from the tragedy of poisonous liquor, the Chief Minister should call a high level meeting without delay, include social-cultural organizations, and above all acknowledge the truth about the poisonous liquor system and take action accordingly.
The government should arrange for proper treatment for the injured and pay Rs 20 lakhs as compensation to the families of the dead.
